How to Obtain a Health Access Card which enables you to visit a doctor at no cost to you
June 2004
Winter Edition

Become a Member Now

NCACCH needs more people from around the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions to become members.

NCACCH needs to address as many Indigenous health issues as it can and the only way to do this is to have more people from a wider area with more input.

As such we need Indigenous people and others from a wider geographical range to have a say in what the organisation does and how it does it.

Membership is still only $5.00 with the membership roll closing 30 June.

Please phone Col Jackie or John for further information.

Oral Health

Substance Abuse

NCACCH represented the Sunshine Coast Indigenous community at the 3rd Australasian Drug Strategy Conference in Alice Springs from the 4 to the 6 May.

The 3 day conference had several local and international speakers covering all issues from drink spiking, petrol sniffing, community drug strategies to law enforcement.

NCACCH attended many sessions over the 3 days with a vision to implement some of the strategies on our return to the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions.

As a result of our attendance the Perth Division of General Practice as asked us to come over and present the Brokerage Model to their membership. They have a large Indigenous population in and around the city.

Partnership Agreements

North Coast Aboriginal Corporation together with Queensland Health and The Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice recently signed an historic partnership agreement to ensure the continued delivery of health services to the people in both the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions.

The official signing took place at the Nambour Hospital and North Coast looks forward to a long and productive cooperative arrangement.

Working Agreement

3 June once again saw NCACCH participate in the signing of an agreement. This time with Queensland Health whereby it will be written into the job description of all Queensland Indigenous Health Workers on the Sunshine Coast that they must be NCACCH referrers.

These agreements are seen as a major step forward in the delivery of health services to the Indigenous community on the Sunshine Coast and Gympie, which can only mean a better service for you.

With the coordinated help of community groups and members of ASSPA bodies the focus this year was to reach as many Indigenous people as possible.

Overall 116 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were vaccinated through 7 clinics over a 4 week period, an increase of 32% on last year.

NCACCH would like to thank all those who participated in the success of this
